Steps of Hope created a weekly initiative to feed the hungry and impoverished. For 15 weeks to date, Steps of Hope’s team of volunteers has been cooking 150 servings of assorted meals and distributing them to those in need in Achrafieh, an eastern district of the capital of Lebanon. This is needed now more than ever as currently 1 million people in Lebanon live in poverty.

The Beirut blast on August 4, 2020 aggravated an already grim economic and food security situation that had been worsened due to the country’s financial crisis and the covid-19 pandemic. The rising cost of basic necessities compounded by the rising rate of unemployment has left individuals in dire need.

Currently, Lebanon is one of the most indebted countries in the world. Lebanon relies on imports for 85 percent of its food, much of which it borrows money to pay for. The explosion at Beirut’s port was catastrophic, as 70 percent of Lebanon’s trade passes through it. The absence of a functioning port has prevented and delayed access to food, while also increasing the cost of imported food.

A huge thank you to each and every one of you for donating and helping feed over 150 people on a weekly basis.

Every bit helps. Donate here!
